saturday, 21 july 2007 -end-

in the car, i watched the view from the window blur past. streaks of neon lights in the dark belonged to bars and lounges that were still open into the night.. or day, as 4.00am was fast approaching. i had only one thing on my mind; and, i assume, so did another hundred would-be witnesses.

once we arrived at KLCC, the magnificent building was still sleeping in the dark except for little twinkling lights on the top ten floors and the slight movement of security guards patrolling outside. since the place looked deserted, we decided to circle the place for a round or two.

suddenly, our ride came to a slow drive and i peered ahead to look for the cause. it seems that several police officers had detained a few gang members, for what i don't know but my female acquaintance suspected drug traffickers.

not wanting to be there 5.00am on the dot, my chauffeur parked opposite the center court entrance and us foursome went down the claustrophobic spiraling basement car park, instead of going to the park mall entrance as tipped by the media. the chauffeur of mine decided to keep an eye on the car, leaving my roommate, female acquaintance and i waiting patiently with no more than two dozen others for the door to open at a supposedly 5.00am.

"garasu no bara yori mo hakanakute moroi no ni
yume miru koto wa naze sadame na no deshou"

after half an hour of wait, my chauffeur phoned to tell us that there's a good thousand others waiting at the entrance of park mall. then, a man approached us (two dozen people) to inform us that the park mall entrance was about to open and directed us to go there. everyone made a mad dash to get back to the surface and so did i.

true to the words of my chauffeur, there was a mob of people waiting two or three feet away from the park mall entrance. then, the staff of kinokuniya informed that the wait will be extended to 5.30am. it doesn't matter how long more they want to extend it because the fanatics are not leaving the building without "it".

as the clock ticked, cameras were flashing away; some by casual citizens, some were reporters from the media. every now and then, someone would exit from the mall and a small part of the crowd would go "hurray!!!" whatever.

when the staffers began to place "obstacles" (as labeled by the crowd around me) at the tall glass doors, the tension began to heighten. all of a sudden, one end went roaring like spartans and i was slowly pushed forward. it was then i realised that the crowd had began moving towards the open doors.

if i needed an example to teach how the liquid molecules look (or feel) like, i would tell a class to fit through a two-door entrance all at once and let yourself move forward like a wave would. highly saturated too.

once i saw that the escalators were jammed by the amount of people, i ran towards the ramlee mall escalators to get up. once i was on the third floor where TGV (the starting point of the queue) was, the path was absolutely obstructed by metal fences. imagine that, fences in a mall? this is too serious.

the run down the escalator to reach TGV had consumed an amount of energy and i was getting low on stamina, but i went on. while i was catching my breath, i noticed that the whole mall was echoing a certain movie background OST. by then, i was queuing up alone behind several hundred people. my roommate and female acquaintance was no where in sight. at least, in the bevy of colourful people.

"haruka na hoshizora ni yume wa mada miemasu ka?
osanai ano hi yori azayaka desu ka?"

then, we got in touch again on our mobile phone and i walked along the indescribable long queue as i peeled my eyes to join them again. on my way i saw a couple of witches or wizards too. i also saw one other muggle armed herself with a wand.

at the end of the line was my female acquaintance, so i quickly slipped into line with her. as for my roommate, unfortunately, she was not agile enough to bypass the watchful eye of the traffic control staff. by 6.00am the first thirteen people in line were led up to kinokuniya in glory. upon my arrival outside kinokuniya itself, sad to say we were 31st in place instead of 13th in place.

the case was almost solved as then, i was only queuing up to pay for "it" instead of being the lucky thirteen to receive a complimentary copy. the line extended on and on behind me. at least i had the chance to share the moment with my female acquaintance; my roommate was (not in queue) stranded across the kinokuniya entrance. so near yet so far.

not long before 7.00am, the first hundred or two were let in past the fat lady at the "gryffindor entrance" with the password "gillyweed violet" to witness the countdown to 7.01am. on the dot, the "curtain" was "magically" lifted into the air revealing the books covered underneath. the books were flying off the shelves to the jittery cashiers who have been waiting to punch the first one into the register.

7.11am. i paid for my hard cover, first edition, children's version, 607 pages of harry potter and the deathly hollows with a complimentary oliwander's original quibbling (goose feather) quill, and we foursome left for home.

Case closed.

saturday, 21 july 2007

i glanced at the clock on the glowing LCD screen again. it was already an hour past midnight. the stretch of time i spent on the computer, researching a case, was beginning to get to me. my eyes were about to clam shut when suddenly...

"Just remember you are not alone
So don't you fear
Even though you're miles away
I'm by your side
So open up your mind and close your eyes
I'll be there for you no matter where you are"

the nokia 3120 rang loudly (at least, in the dead of night) breaking the long silence. i quickly pressed the "answer" button before the ring tone woke the dead.

"Akiko?" the voice belonged a male associate detective of mine. he was suggesting that i'd better be out soon, getting the much needed head start on my case. i told him that i had already scheduled sleuth mode at 3.00am with a female acquaintance, my roommate and a chauffeur. too bad, or so i thought, another female associate detective could not make it.

i went snacking after the call. i don't know whether to say i felt lonely or presence of someone. none of my contacts were online at the moment.

the wind began to pick up speed and i could hear it whistling through the window gap. i thought to myself that i'd better be offline before the lightning strikes the modem dead.

the sky seemed so dark, i couldn't see the stars nor moon. living in the city, perhaps. yet another reason to be careful while i'm out on this case, you'll see.

i have been tipped that the crime scene were to be at kinokuniya bookstore in klcc at the crack of dawn. the media and a mob of people would be there too. yes, this is a case waiting to happen; not to mention international and i was only one of them (undercover) covering the case in malaysia. how it landed in my hands i don't know, but i know it had been decided half a decade ago. i should be getting some sleep but...

i stayed up for the next couple of hours with a fresh start on my next case. hey, if you can read more than one book at a time, then i can be on more than one case at a time.

"In this world when life can be so tough

You must be strong
Just believe in yourself and don't you fear
So open up your mind and close your eyes
Take another look from the other side"

the mobile phone rang again. i picked it up hurriedly and answered it. it was the female acquaintance who will be out on the case with me. i know it would be dangerous to have her tag along, especially when she's no more than an amateur detective. but we briefed about the plan once again.

after that, 3.00am arrived with no hurry. i woke my roommate from her slumber and proceeded to wake my chauffeur too. the next thing we know, the three of us met up with the female acquaintance of mine and we left for klcc together.

to be continued...

the spring roll on the side...

"do you believe in the eighth harry potter installment?" i ponder at the Q. i'm certainly not desperate for the eighth tome and somehow, neither was anyone else. "Yes Please!!!" resulted in 0% votes. people were split at the responses which means it was a fair split, 33% each three other options "Maybe yes, maybe no," "Never!" and "I couldn't care less." well, i guess all good things have to come to an end. tom stoppard said, every exit is an entry some where.

last week's spring roll! (not ew!)

ta-dah! did you notice the editted format of the blog? i have now finalised the new layout to suit the title of the blog. ^__^;; took me some time, no? it took me some time to get the poll conclusion up too.

anyway, the poll last week ("Do you, or someone you know, whose blood type is A tend to dislike cosplay and hate to be woken up from slumber?") had seven votes in total but 29% replied to a redundant answer ("not blood type A"), so i wont take that into the conclusion. now, i'm not telling the world that it is a definite fact but 72% votes had a similarity, that blood type A's tend to be in bad mood as they are awaken. there were 0% votes to disagree with the option that the opinion was "not true". however, that doesn't mean you can mess with AB or B or O types. (especially AB type coz they carry the A gene too!) as for the cosplay relation to sleep moodiness, 29% responded to "not the cosplay, just the slumber part" as cosplay relation is only a personal opinion, hence, cannot be applied to everyone. (go interview cosplayers for their blood type; you're bound to find A types.)

in conclusion, don't mess with blood type A's when they are in slumber (and try to apply to AB type too) and don't push them towards something if they don't want to do it. they may not show it, but you don't want to find out too late. don't say i didn't warn ya.

oh, and here's a souvenier from my english class:
Passive Sentences (rewriting):
Q: the snake escaped from the zoo keeper.
A: the snake was escaped by the zoo keeper.
correct me if i'm wrong as we all learn from our mistake. nobody wants to make the same mistake twice. then again, would it be a mistake if there were to be an eighth book to the Harry Potter series? all i know is that one portion of my saving goes to some publisher and author.

rude awakening...

now, is it still possible that my blood type is A (i can be only either A or O) if i was suddenly awaken from my sleep twice under three hours apart of one another and not rant angrily after? i must be O. stepadoo is currently disappointed that she is an O, not A, and not able to donate blood for being underage. this morning mizuiro broke my deep slumber (and i slept late last night!) at 7am to ask me save a softcopy of the school magazine cover i designed. i went back to bed groggily after that. then, dad came bringing time back into my sleep, saying it was 9am and that i'm still not ready to go. i told my class begins at 11am...

english: my favourite subject. another rude awakening is how different the level of english teachers from one another can be, in malaysia. back at school i have never met a "bad english" teacher, not once. (okay, if there were i did not register them on my memory.) here, college level, i expected the same. afterall, english will forever be english. but. but, this unusually bold woman who is lecturing my class for english is below par, in my opinion. correct me if i'm wrong, but i disagree on what kind of english she's trying to drill into our heads:

- honest: she pronounced it "ho-nest". no, it wasn't a slip of tongue, she repeated it again, the same way. i asked, since it was a silent H, shouldn't it be "o-nest"? she agreed see, watch this and said most, if not all, H are silent so it is pronounced honest ("ho-nest" again).

- a flock of birds: wrong, she said. read below.

- a school of fish: wrong. she said these were wrong because they were intended to be used for specific things while "birds" and "fish" are general terms. a student checked a dictionary and said it suggested that the aforementioned were correct. woman said: usually not accepted; "what dictionary is that?" "oxford.."; i'll see to it with my seniors.

- silhouette: it is pronounced "sil-hoot".

- avert: means to focus your sight on something.

- ridiculously: she accepted common definitions such as silly or foolish, i agree. then, i suggested 'preposterous' but she said "that is too detailed". i dont know what that means but clearly, she did not know the meaning of preposterous. therefore she did not accept the answer to avoid making a mistake. oh, what a mistake.

- absorb: to suck. (this is a vocabulary question in a comprehension exercise. again, she said the meaning should be according to the passage. i suggested "to occupy the full attention, interest, or time of; engross" from thefreedictionary.com but "your answer is not acceptable". and the passage sentence went, "..to absorb the day's lessons.")

- 'these documents is..': this is a mistake i found in the workbook ('is' supposed to be 'are') but she defended it like it was her best friend or something. she even made up a story to prove it.

- positive and negative sentences: active and passive sentences, she said. ZOMGWTFLMAOLOLBBQ. then she gave inverted sentences (ayat sonsang) as examples to show "positive" and "negative".

as if its not pleasing enough to know that i will be stuck with her until the end of my semester in september, she is marking my english paper! god, bless me.

cosplay projects...

there was a blood donation drive at college today (and tomorrow). yeah, its not cosplay; wait. i was passing by the hall where i can see people hanging around, getting in, and those leaving looked drained. patience. see, i wanted to stop by to ask if they would mind puncturing my finger to test my blood type. i was walking alone. i had a distance to get to the library. i wanted to know my blood type. but i had a feeling i can't take it.

so leave i did, and did not find out my blood type. if i knew my blood type, would it have encouraged me to cosplay (hah! now you're talking..) more characters of the same blood type? well, i won't know until i test my blood, right? stepadoo said it hurts one tiny second and you wouldn't know what hit you the next, but i still doubt the prick. anyway, yesterday i was watching the view from inside as the LRT made its way to the station closest to campus. and one station struck my mind real loud:

the station look exactly 98.76% like the actual setting in midori no hibi ED (minus the vending machine). plus, i liked the ending of the manga as it reminded me of who else? me when midori received the diary from seiji. i have six 'volumes' of diary now. thus, another character has popped on my...

cosplay project list:

- amane misa / death note (this time with blonde wig and according to the cover version. and, the manga and raito won my heart hands down!)

- chii / chobits (I LOVE CLAMP! once i get my hands on that foam material and bedone with the 'persocom ears' the platinum blonde wig will come along)

- ryomou shimei / ikki tousen (i was looking for a character in meido outfit coz i had a thing for meido, after seifuku)

- midori & seiji / midori no hibi (a collaboration with mizuiro coz i wanted to crossplay and get short wigs - hoping short ones are more affordable compared to the other lengths. oh, and both in uniform and full body form.)

- lenalee / d. gray man (i totally want that black-white uniform! no, actually it's coz i already have long socks and hair - no wig!)

- nemu kurotsuchi / bleach (i wanted a character whose outfit has a touch of japanese - its a plus point that her personality is reserved)

- yukari "caroline" / paradise kiss (need i say more? fine. I LOVE PARAKISS. I LIVE YUKARI'S LIFE.)

- kougaiji / saiyuki reload (this was on a crazy split second thought - i wanted to try out extreme chest binding, with exposure. plus i wanted to be the guy going after sanzo! sephiroth is too cool for me.)

- saki hanajima / fruits basket (i love the manga and i get to wear black nails as hana!)

happy birthday, MeLC!

i have no other words to say than to wish a very happy eighteenth birthday to you melc! i hope you like this little gift from me (if you must, count the beret in)... i do wish i could get byakuya to put his hand on your shoulder but we wouldn't want to invite two wrong ideas, right? one, that he's a little naughty. or two, making other female fans of him green with envy! (i am already.) XD oh, and credit goes to bleachportal.net for the guest star~

melc gets a photo opportunity with captain byakuya! (click for LARGER image)

enjoy~! ^__^

first weekly poll...

check your blood type! (or your friend's.) the japanese categorised different blood types to have certain personalities and i'm here today to check on blood type A... the scientific world could not prove it to be accurate but i found it rather true. go ahead, prove me wrong! (but please be truthful okay?) anyway, having a poll is an alternative to have an interactive item other than a cbox (since i don't want a box of spam coming in).

remember to read the poll Q properly. i did state you "OR" someone you know. i am not trying to prove anything but if you look at the Q closely you will see a conclusion, which i shall reveal next weekend if you still don't know what it is. last but not least, no offence to those blood type As out there. -poll partially inspired by ouran high school host club-

trauma or.. trauma?

you know what would be traumatic to me? every time i blog, i use trebuchet ms. i even use the same font in msn messenger and meebo. one day i realised how attached to trebuchet ms i was when meebo no longer have the font in the drop-down menu list! (plus, very recently i found i can no longer use trebuchet ms on the selected font available in freewebs.com, oh the trauma!) now i only hope Blogger don't go messing up my life here.

speaking of blog, i have some interesting aftermath from the taylor's event.. (affecting the blog.) perhaps i was vain but, i spent a couple of days thinking how guki-chan (ouran cosplayer if i may be right) found my blog which i dare consider hidden in the deepest end of the world and came up with an idea with kclee. search engine, namely google. i searched for the title of my taylor's AF 07 entry and true enough i found a number of related sites, and mine among them! aside from being mentioned in dark moon's photography link, there were many irrelevant "taylor"-related sites too.

link link! i have a couple more freeloaders added on my list. Lis is the amane misa cosplayer in the red tartan top from AF 07. (refer to 1st july 2007 entry.) Nicholas aka MooMooCow has finally decided to stick a cbox in his blog.. a very tempting suggestion but i shall still keep my blog cbox-free (applies to similar chat boxes too) for i love comments. remember to drop me a line, nyaa~

wait! there's more.. i have finally finally finally uploaded photographs for the month of june. now available: melc's last day in malaysia photos; my so-called 'studio shoot' with estee lauder, body shot and head shot. also, the gallery of my gashapon here (shot in may). last but not least, please check the taylor's AF 07 gallery from time to time as i still have a handful more photos not uploaded yet.

Taylor's Anime Festival 2007!

photo gallery: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/1003/simplicity/AF-06-2007/

the lucky star opening act by the anime club members~

wonders made the event happen but it was the taylor's anime club that pulled it together! on 30th june 2007, the uncommonly dubbed AF 07 by yours truly, opened doors around 10am, but i'd never know coz i arrived at 10.30am with minori and stepadoo. i went around taking photos in supposedly-mizuiro's gray pantsuit before i changed into my eclair costume that afternoon. although i don't have my props for eclair anymore (which i pray will miraculously appear somewhere) at least i have the M5-2F handgun from minori. btw, neither minori nor i know the model of the BB gun but a random guy in red told me so and everyone who handled the gun commented that it was heavier than their own or others and asked the same question: where did you get it?

random mission: eclair versus minori!

cosplaying once again after a while (since GACC 07) brings back memories. requested for photos, being in front of cameras.. and seeing unkind shutterbugs in action. let's not allow the tiny fraction of unethicals spoil the rest. the security should keep their eyes peeled and not just stand at the exit. everyone i met got along well and i loved meeting new friends most of all! although i don't know all their names but i enjoyed talking to fellow forumers, new cosplayers and photographers. i shall be seeing them at CF 07, hopefully.

meet my new friends: misa misa and KP!

suddenly, one corner of the hall (near the entrance/exit actually) was packed with people.. obviously an attractive cosplayer has arrived (and did not manage to get further in the hall) so i went for peek and saw the jigoku shoujo pair namely, enma ai and hone-onna. i took it as my cue to get out of eclair and into my next character.

from left: fruits basket costumer, sachiko ogasawara, enma ai, haruhi suzumiya cosplayers

minori blasted through her infinite love and came close to winning if not for the more powerful songstress who sang endless story. or was it endless love? anyway, stepadoo and i lent a helping hand or two as minori got into her yukata for the first time. on the way out to grab lunch (in fact it was 5pm) i stopped GBD to capture a photo of minori knowing well that he'd take a better picture of her than i could. then, guess where we ate? at mcd's.. there was already a group of cosplayers (half of them my college mates, though not taylor's) there so it wasn't too akward for stepadoo or minori. im totally fine with the attention. ^__^

minori tries her hand at being "poster girl"

well, what do i know? the day has to come to an end and people were leaving by 6pm to avoid the traffic jam which in my opinion doesn't help coz the jam would still happen. i hung around to take a last look at the hall, take group photos of and for the staff, and went home with a pair of occupied arms. why? one hand was holding the change of clothes and door gift; the other was holding a new keyboard. how? i answered a random question at the end of the event and got it right.. then *pop* "here you go," said the emcee. i could only stare in surprise.
